Siena College student's year long effort in support of a local children's charity has been realized!

Last evening Siena College's Students Event Board (SEB) presented the Albany County Correctional Facility for Children's Benefit (ACCFCB) two checks totaling $10,299. "This is the FIRST time that we received financial assistance for our seriously ill children without asking for it; and, this is the SECOND largest donation that our foundation has ever received."; John R Smith, Founder and President of ACCFCB told the students and staff at Siena last evening during the check presentation celebration.

The ACCFCB is an all volunteer group from the Correctional Facility and community who supports seriously ill children around the Capital Region. "One of our main focuses is to help cover expenses for families when their seriously ill child travels outside of the Capital Region for medical treatment" Smith said.

Siena's SEB chooses a different community charity to support each year. Gina Fabian and Amanda Scott the Co-Chairs of Charity Week events happened upon www.accfcb.org while searching the internet for local charities.

"The generosity shown to us by all of you has overwhelmed our group. One of my most memorable moments, was when Gina Fabian and Amanda Scott informed me last March that our children's foundation was chosen as beneficiary of Siena's Charity Week. I had no idea that we were even in the running for such generosity! They led me to believe that I was answering questions about our organization to help them prepare a paper for their Charities Class - VERY CLEVER!" Smith explained to a delighted group last night.

"We were totally impressed at the level of enthusiasm and professionalism that was on display by all of the students and staff who participated in this effort" Smith further said.

SEB will start looking for their next local charity to support in the next couple of weeks.

ACCFCB is organizing their 4th annual "TEED OFF FOR TOTS Golf event to be held Friday- June 27, 2008 at the Fairways of Halfmoon golf course, Mechanicville, NY. (9am shotgun start; 4 person scramble format)

Siena College Charity Week Update

ACCF For Children's Benefit was in awe over the whole experience with Siena College during their Annual Charity Week.

We were totally impressed at the level of enthusiasm and professionalism that was on display all week at Siena. Everyone was so gracious to us and made us feel very welcome.

The generosity shown to our foundation by the Siena College students has overwhelmed our group. It is the first time in our existence that we received aid for our seriously ill children without us having to ask. It is usually us knocking on doors seeking the much needed assistance.

Amanda Scott & Gina Fabian who co-chaired Siena's Annual Charity Week along with the Student Events Board and all of the participating Students are perfect representatives for Siena and it has been an honor and privilege interacting with all of them.

To all of you, we send our deepest gratitude!
Thank you so much for all of your love and support.

Sincerely,
J. Smith Signature

Siena College Charity Week

Siena College will be sponsoring its annual Charity Week from Sunday, November 4 until Saturday, November 10. During this week, the Charity Week committee will be holding its 15th Annual Service Auction. The Service Auction is an event in which the Siena community can auction any services they can provide to the highest bidder, such as cleaning a dorm room or cooking dinner for fellow students. This event has been very popular in the past, and we are expecting a very successful auction this November.

The proceeds from this auction will benefit the Albany County Correctional Facility for Children’s Benefit. This charity is run by volunteers from the Albany County Correctional Facility and beyond. They are committed to their mission, which is to support seriously ill and underprivileged children during their time of need. To find out more, you can visit their web site, www.accfcb.org. Currently, their main fundraiser is a summer golf tournament, which will take place for the fourth year in a row on June 27, 2008.

We are asking local businesses which are patronized by Siena students to make a donation to the auction. Examples of donations we have received in the past include gift certificates, gift baskets, or anything that students would bid on. Contributions of any size would be greatly appreciated!

We will be publishing a brochure for the night of the action thanking local businesses that contribute to Charity Week. We hope that the Service Auction will provide an opportunity for your business to show support to the Siena College community.

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact Amanda Scott at 845-430-4432.

Thank you for your time and support,

Amanda Scott

Cameron Stackman Graduates Kindergarten!

Posted on 06.15.07 by wjs3

John, Bill, and Cameron

COLONIE - When Cameron Stackman and the graduating kindergarten class of Forest Park Elementary School made their way to the cafeteria stage early this morning, cameras flashed like they were superstars on the red carpet at the Grammy's. But while every student is special on their graduation day, there was something about Cameron that set him apart from the group, attracting everyone's attention. The five-year-old was born on Nov. 1, 2001 with part of his intestine formed outside of his body, a rare condition called gastroschesis. Four years ago he had a multiple organ transplant needed to save his life. And on Friday, during graduation, he was all smiles. "This is really exciting, we never thought that he would develop so fast. We're very thankful that the school treated him like family and just like the other students,'' said a proud Amy Stackman, Cameron's mother. For a young child that has been through so much, neither Cameron or his parents showed too much emotion but everyone was unanimously grateful. "There is truly a miracle here today,'' said John Smith, president of the Albany County Correctional Facility for Children's Benefit. The organization has supported Cameron and the Stackman family through all trials and triumphs and raised $25,000 for the family to pay for operations and travel expenses. The family-oriented environment at the school has also been supportive of Cameron's family, helping to raise about $1,000 to help the Stackmans through tough times, William Stackman, Cameron's father added. The condition demanded complex surgery as his blood supply to his intestine was cut off due to the abdomen wall beginning to form around it. In some instances during the early part of his treatment, IVs were applied to Cameron for 16 hours a day. One month after his birth, Stackman was placed on the organ donor list. In February of 2003, Cameron underwent a double transplant on his intestine and liver and has come a long way with odds against him all the way through. At school, Cameron is like the little town mayor, said Cameron's kindergarten teacher, Shawn Healy, "he walks proudly down the hall, waving at everyone.'' One of the biggest accomplishments this year for Cameron has been his growth of independence, said Heather Kurto, a special education teacher. School Principal Patrick Gunner recalled carrying Stackman around in his arms after he broke a leg during a trampoline accident. It was a task he said he didn't mind. "I'll carry him around until he's 12 if I have to, whenever you have supporting, loving, caring parents, teachers, and staff, situations like these always work out,'' Gunner said on the verge of tears. "What's next,'' Gunner asked the audience, "first grade,'' the principal answered.
