Hunter Post surgery Recovery in Baltimore & now at home
On May 11, 2010 Hunter underwent extensive hip surgery and returned HOME on May 22, 2010 with a very LONG recovery ahead- many months of bed rest and then A YEAR of Physical Therapy.
Hunter's mom tells ACCFCB- "Hunter is well. We lowered his day time pain meds and he is handling it wonderfully. School started back up for him this week too with a tutor plus homework. He is handling all really well. Going to lower his night time pain meds this weekend and see how he does".
HUNTER HONORED FOR MORE THAN STUDENT OF THE MONTH-
Maple Hill Middle School Technology teacher Mr. Malloy writes:
"There are some things in life to look forward to. For Hunter, Tech 7 was one of those things. He wanted to design and build a bridge. He wanted to build a clock. Life has a knack of getting in the way of things we look forward to. For Hunter, life has gotten in the way again. He may be unable to complete his assignments due to a pending medical procedure. Some may have taken the opportunity to opt out. Everyone would have understood; everyone except Hunter. Up until the day he left class, Hunter continued to design, calculate and plan out his engineering designs. He even gathered his materials. He proudly limped out of class today, materials in hand, headed for yet another hospital bed, yet another excruciating surgery and a long recovery process. I understood Hunter a little better today, for a boy walked into my classroom a year ago and a young man left today".
Congratulations Hunter from your friends @ ACCFCB!
At the age of 8, Hunter complained of leg pain which doctors diagnosed as Bi-Lateral Legg-Calve Perthes Disease- (a rare disease that causes bone death in the ball of both hips due to a lack of blood flow). He went from being a very active child to confinement in a wheelchair.
Hunter had surgery in January 2007 and spent 5 months recovering @ Sinai Hosp in Baltimore, Maryland. He was finally able to come home in May to face a year long extensive Physical Therapy regiment.

On July 6, 2007, Hunter received the Albany County Correctional Facility for Children's Benefit's "Courage Award" at our 3rd annual "TEED OFF FOR TOT'S" Golf Classic Event. The award highlighted the tremendous courage Hunter displayed during his long ordeal and was well DESERVED!

Unbelievable. Just simply unbelievable.
