Mom and Hunter Sept. 2010 Checkup & Hunter's hip X-rays.
May 11, 2010 Hunter underwent major hip surgery due to a rare bone disease and returned home on May 22, 2010 to face a long recovery, several months of bed rest and a year of Physical Therapy.
September 28, 2010 Hunter returned home after a check up from Baltimore and mom reports the following-
Hunter's Appt. was OK. Bone is healing nicely. Good Blood flow.(woo hoo!!) Hunter got the Okay to 4 wheel and carefully ride his dirt bike. No jumps or bumps but easy riding he can do. Hunter was VERY pleased with that.
Hunter's right hip is starting to have subluxation (dislocation). Not good. Its the reason for Hunter's Increased pain. Dr. Standard wants him to increase PT and work harder. Gave him an entire new regimen to work on. Plus new pain meds to try.
We re-evaluate in 2 months. If no improvement then we need to talk about more surgery to correct this. So we are hoping PT will be enough to keep the femoral head in place. Such a mixed appointment. Hunter is pleased and stressed. Poor boy. Lots to work on in the next 8 weeks. We are hoping for the best!
Thanks,
Noelle

At the age of 8, Hunter complained of leg pain which doctors diagnosed as Bi-Lateral Legg-Calve Perthes Disease- (a rare disease that causes bone death in the ball of both hips due to a lack of blood flow). He went from being a very active child to confinement in a wheelchair.
Hunter previously had surgery in January 2007 and spent 5 months recovering @ Sinai Hosp in Baltimore, Maryland. He was finally able to come home in May and faced a year long extensive Physical Therapy regiment.
Hunter received the ACCF for Children's Benefit 2007 "Courage Award" at our 3rd annual "TEED OFF FOR TOT'S" Golf Classic Event On July 6, 2007. The award highlighted the tremendous courage Hunter displayed during his long ordeal and was well DESERVED!
