Update from Mom, Eileen-
"After a very trying 2011 with many episodes of sepsis and a stay in a pediatric skilled nursing facility, Becca is now home. In February, she suddenly was unable to bear weight on her right side and was in tremendous pain. An MRI showed degenerative disc disease in her spine, with a herniated disc at L5-S1. We have been inpatient for this, and have attempted PT without success. She is able to walk a bit more now, and we are encouraging her to get up and move as much as she can tolerate. The pain is a constant battle trying many different meds to keep her comfortable. We have moved her bedroom downstairs to the living room and made modifications to the house to make her comfortable. The degeneration of her spine is due to her body not being able to absorb the nutrients from food, she is now on IV's 7 days a week, and we are running out of good veins to use for the next port spot. As long as we can keep her out of pain and happy, we are happy."

Rebecca was born with special needs and diagnosed in 2003 with Mitochondrial Complex 2 Deficiency, a life threatening condition causing her body to not properly turn food into energy. It becomes harder to sustain energy levels and it compromises the digestive & immune system.
Rebecca is "such a sweet soul even with all she's been through. When she's herself, she is happy and loves to sing and dance. Becca loves music from Big Band to Patsy Cline, current pop & good old rock & roll." Mom said that "most days if you ask her what she'd like to do for the day, she says in her tiny, little, sweet voice 'we go to airport?' She loves to people watch and attend outings. She has a great time at live hockey games."
