William Kurlychek, Age 5
William suffers from Global Asphyxia, a lack of oxygen due to swallowing amniotic fluid at birth causing brain and neurological damage. This diagnosis effects his fine and gross motor planning abilities, speech and eye sight. Further compromised is his immune system causing frequent hospital stays for asthma, oxygen therapy, nebulizers, antibiotics and steroids. William will also require treatment for sleep apnea and corrective eye surgery. William suffers from frequent pneumonia due to low core strength causing his inability to cough up mucus leading to frequent battles with pneumonia. He undergoes physical, speech and occupational therapy daily.
William's mom, Victoria told us "he is exhausted and warn down by the end of the day, but still has time to tell me about all the friends he makes. He loves to teach his friends, family and teachers about dinosaurs. He wants to be a Paleontologist when he grows up."
